The pulmonary operation of Severance Hospital at Yonsei Hospital was initiated by establishing the Pulmonary Disease Clinic and ward in 1950 and this could be regarded as the beginning of modern medical treatment for pulmonary diseases in Korea. The Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery currently plays a leading role in the operative treatment of pulmonary disease, mediastinal disease and esophageal disease. In case of lung cancer, esophageal cancer and mediastinal tumor, our department is treating patients with best efficiency under the mutual cooperation with the medical staffs from the best medical center in Korea for accurate diagnosis, surgery and other supportive care. Also, our department provides best medical services to patients through the surgical operations of using latest thoracoscopy and Da Vinci Surgical Robot System.
