Clinical Procedures

The clinical fellowship training program emphasizes on obtaining competency rather than the achievement of numbers alone. However, it is expected that a training fellow will be involved in an average of 200-250 operative cases per year.


• 65-70% gastric oncology surgery (30% Robotic, 40% laparoscopic, 10% open,)
 - Total gastrectomy
 - Distal gastrectomy
 - Proximal gastrectomy
 - Pylorus preserving gastrectomy
 - Revisional surgery and  completion gastrectomy
 - Wedge resection


•10-15% bariatric surgery
 - Sleeve gastrectomy
 - Bypass surgery


•5-10% anti-reflux surgery


•Emergency surgery
 - Leak management (duodenal stump leak, anastomotic leak)
 - Internal hernia
 - Gastric outlet obstruction (malignant& benign )

Research training

You will have opportunities to get involved in research activities. We have tremendous resources, including extensive procedural databases, statistics, and access to the medical library and e-journals.

With guidance of your faculty mentor, you will pursue short or long-term projects and submit abstract to domestic or international meetings. You will also be able to publish highly recognized surgical journals with the cooperation with faculties, Korean and international fellows.

Academic Activities

Trainees will be able to participate in :
 

1. Weekly Gastric Cancer Conference

2. Weekly morbidity & mortality conference

3. Domestic & International Conferences; Participation or oral presentation

4. Minimal Invasive and Robotic Surgery courses (Simulator and animal labs): 4 times a year

5. Presentation in Peer review journal clubs
