The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Severance hospital, Yonsei University mainly focuses on surgical treatment to gastric and small intestine diseases, such as stomach cancer, GIST, GERD, and hiatal hernia.

Annually the average cases cross the training hospital more than 1000 cases of stomach cancer surgeries and more than 200 cases of other upper gastrointestinal surgery including metabolic and bariatric procedure, peptic ulcer surgery and wedge resection for gastric subepithelial tumors. More than 90% of cases are performed robotically or laparoscopically. Various GI reconstructions with intracorporeal or extracorporeal anastomosis after resection of stomach are performed.
