Severance International Fellowship (SIF) is open to foreign physicians, dentists, nurses, medical technicians, or hospital administrators who wish to experience clinical care, operative procedures, and participate in research activities at Severance Hospital(Sinchon) Seoul, Korea. This program builds on the hospital’s long legacy and mission to educate future clinical leaders in healthcare and ultimately reducing health inequalities in the global society.

1. All foreign trainees have to be eligible to enter Korea without violating Article 11(Prohibition, etc. of Entry) of the Immigration Act of the Republic of Korea.
   
   
2. All foreign trainees have to be enough fluent in English or Korean to participate in the training. Trainees have to be not only able to do daily conversation, but also have to understand and be able to listen, read, write, and speak about their professional specialty area in English or Korean. Severance Academy might request official proof of the trainee's language proficiency if necessary. Interpretations are NOT available.
   
   
3. All foreign trainees have to be registered as trainees in Severance Academy, mainly by applying online at this homepage. (Email applications are not recommended.)
   
   
4. All foreign trainees have to submit a immunization form that asks for proof of vaccination or antibody test results for specific diseases designated by Severance Hospital. Please download the form here.

Since 1957, Department of Neurosurgery in Severance Hospital laid the foundation for modern neurosurgery in South Korea and led its revival. Currently, It consists of 6 subdivisions, Cerebrovascular Surgery, Neuro-oncology, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Spine Surgery, and Skull base surgery with 38 professors. 

Despite the COVID pandemic, in 2020, our clinical activities achieved a more than 10,000 surgical cases. Additionally, 73 SCIE articles have been published and 79 clinical and basic research projects are underway, with a combined budget of

KRW 7,462,005,959.  

We have to face unsolved problems such as the COVID-19 pandemic and 4th industrial revolution. But, we believe that, under the cooperation of our members, lessons from the past will lead us down the right path in the future. We hope that our today is never forgotten in our history.

The Cerebrovascular Surgey Fellowship Program aims to provide international physicians with rich knowledge and experiences about the microsurgical management of Cerebrovascular disease. 

The participating fellows will be provided with opportunities to observe and discuss about various neurosurgical procedures ranging from aneurysm clipping, removal of arteriovenous malformation or cavernous malformation, carotid surgery, extracrainal to intracranial arterial bypass, use of neuronavigation and neuroendoscope, decompressive surgery for malignant stroke.
