Severance International Fellowship (SIF) is open to foreign physicians, dentists, nurses, medical technicians, or hospital administrators who wish to experience clinical care, operative procedures, and participate in research activities at Severance Hospital(Sinchon) Seoul, Korea. This program builds on the hospital’s long legacy and mission to educate future clinical leaders in healthcare and ultimately reducing health inequalities in the global society.

The visiting fellowship program of the Arthroscopy and Joint Research Institute at Severance Hospital involves an experience of observation and participation in operations specifically related to sports injuries and disorders around knee. The goal for this fellowship is to provide the clinical and operative experiences necessary for the arthroscopic surgeon to become an expert in the treatment of sports related injuries.

During the visiting fellowship program of Arthroscopy and Joint Research Institute the fellow is expected to participate in conferences, operations and research projects. The clinical component of the training gives emphasis on the development of advanced technical skills of arthroscopic surgery. The fellow is expected to be familiar with the different techniques and proper use of instruments in arthroscopic surgery. The participant will be exposed to the latest operative technique in arthroscopic surgery. The fellow is not limited to participating only in the surgeries of his/her assigned professor. Because of the availability of professors who are experts on a variety of surgical techniques, our fellow is free to interact with them and tailor his/her experience according to what he/she thinks will help him/her become more successful. Several Korean clinical fellows work for the Arthroscopy and Joint Research Institute, every year. The visiting fellow from abroad can collaborate with Korean fellows and have discussions of academic interest.

1. All foreign trainees have to be eligible to enter Korea without violating Article 11(Prohibition, etc. of Entry) of the Immigration Act of the Republic of Korea.
   
   
2. All foreign trainees have to be enough fluent in English or Korean to participate in the training. Trainees have to be not only able to do daily conversation, but also have to understand and be able to listen, read, write, and speak about their professional specialty area in English or Korean. Severance Academy might request official proof of the trainee's language proficiency if necessary. Interpretations are NOT available.
   
   
3. All foreign trainees have to be registered as trainees in Severance Academy, mainly by applying online at this homepage. (Email applications are not recommended.)
   
   
4. All foreign trainees have to submit a immunization form that asks for proof of vaccination or antibody test results for specific diseases designated by Severance Hospital. Please download the form here.
