Severance International Fellowship (SIF) is open to foreign physicians, dentists, nurses, medical technicians, or hospital administrators who wish to experience clinical care, operative procedures, and participate in research activities at Severance Hospital(Sinchon) Seoul, Korea. This program builds on the hospital’s long legacy and mission to educate future clinical leaders in healthcare and ultimately reducing health inequalities in the global society.

1. All foreign trainees have to be eligible to enter Korea without violating Article 11(Prohibition, etc. of Entry) of the Immigration Act of the Republic of Korea.
   
   
2. All foreign trainees have to be enough fluent in English or Korean to participate in the training. Trainees have to be not only able to do daily conversation, but also have to understand and be able to listen, read, write, and speak about their professional specialty area in English or Korean. Severance Academy might request official proof of the trainee's language proficiency if necessary. Interpretations are NOT available.
   
   
3. All foreign trainees have to be registered as trainees in Yonsei Institute for Global Health by applying online at this homepage.
   
   
4. All foreign trainees have to submit a immunization form that asks for proof of vaccination or antibody test results for specific diseases designated by Severance Hospital. Please download the form here.

 Since 1957, the Department of Neurosurgery at Severance Hospital has laid the foundation for modern neurosurgery in South Korea and has developed to a world-class level with producing more than 150 neurosurgeons. Currently, a total of 42 faculty members are running 6 subdivisions (Neuro-oncology, Cerebrovascular neurosurgery, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Spine neurosurgery, and Neuro-intensive care) in three hospitals.

 Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we reached over 10,000 annual surgical cases in 2022, and it has been steadily increasing every year. More than 100 SCIE papers has been published in 2022 and about 70 basic and clinical research projects are in progress. Thanks to the hard work of our members, the Neurosurgery department recently ranked 26th in the world and 1st in South Korea in 2022, and 29th in the world and 1st in South Korea in 2023 in the Neurosurgery field of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals conducted by Newsweek magazine (the United States).

The Neuro-Oncology Surgery Fellowship Program aims to provide international physicians with rich knowledge and experience in the management of brain tumors with various surgical techniques. The participating fellows will be provided with opportunities to observe and discuss about various neurosurgical procedures including awake surgery for glioma, and skull base surgery using transcranial microscopic or transnasal/transorbital neuro-endoscopic approaches in our operating theater. If desired, it is possible to attend domestic academic meetings and in-hospital weekly conferences.
