Severance International Fellowship (SIF) is open to foreign physicians, dentists, nurses, medical technicians, or hospital administrators who wish to experience clinical care, operative procedures, and participate in research activities at Severance Hospital(Sinchon) Seoul, Korea. This program builds on the hospital’s long legacy and mission to educate future clinical leaders in healthcare and ultimately reducing health inequalities in the global society.

1. All foreign trainees have to be eligible to enter Korea without violating Article 11(Prohibition, etc. of Entry) of the Immigration Act of the Republic of Korea.
   
   
2. All foreign trainees have to be enough fluent in English or Korean to participate in the training. Trainees have to be not only able to do daily conversation, but also have to understand and be able to listen, read, write, and speak about their professional specialty area in English or Korean. Severance Academy might request official proof of the trainee's language proficiency if necessary. Interpretations are NOT available.

4. All foreign trainees have to submit a immunization form that asks for proof of vaccination or antibody test results for specific diseases designated by Severance Hospital. Please download the form here.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a long-standing history and tradition is proud of our role that has played a central role in diagnosing and treating women’s diseases in Korea and tries our best to provide best medical services to every female patient. Our department was initiated by Dr. Jessi W. Hirst in 1904, who was one of the leaders established Severance hospital. We started four subdivisions for the first time in Korea: Maternal fetal medicine, Reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Gynecologic oncology, and Urogynecology. There are 12 faculties and 5 attending physicians currently in Severance hospital, 5 faculties and 7 attending physicians in two branch hospitals (Gangnam Severance hospital & Yongin Severance hospital). We started to perform gynecologic minimally invasive surgery for the first time in Korea, as a pioneer of laparoscopic surgery. Our department conducts education for fellows, residents and medical students as well as research activities to provide high-quality healthcare services for women throughout their lifespan.

Severance Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology has been at the forefront of healthy pregnancy and childbirth since its opening. Since 1983, we have been operating the “High Risk Pregnancy Clinic”, providing optimal treatment to help pregnant women and their babies. In addition to general pregnancy, we are in charge of diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia, preterm labor, premature rupture of membrane, and placenta previa. In the diagnosis and treatment of fetal anomaly, we consult with related pediatric departments such as neonatal department, pediatric urology department, pediatric cardiology department, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and clinical genetics. Through this, we check the condition of the fetus during pregnancy and link it to postnatal treatment so that patients can receive treatment without any medical gaps.

Clinical procedures include cesarean section, vaginal delivery, cerclage, D&E, intrauterine balloon insertion, cesarean hysterectomy , Diagnosis and treatment of high risk pregnancy (preterm labor, PPROM, pl. previa, preeclampsia).

Studies on gestational diabetes, the pathophysiology of Preeclampsia - Cell experiments, cord blood stem cells, particulate matter and the relationship between pregnancy are being done.
