The Department of Dermatology was initially established first in Korea as a department of dermatology when Professor Kung-Sun Oh assumes the first department chair on 14 May 1917 and has taken a leading role in the field of dermatology in Korea along with our long history of Severance for the last 111 years. Until the moment of developmental separation into dermatology and urology in 1961 according to the changes in modern medicine, the Department of Dermatology had been integrated into the departments of dermatology and urology and also shares its history with the origin. The thing that this developmental separation can be made possible while keeping pace with advanced medical science in the West would be contributable to the hard work by Professor Namju Lee the 8th department chair (first department chair after the division of dermatology and urology) and by Professor Jongsoon Wang the 1st department chair of urology. Since the time of establishing the Department of Dermatology, we have educated more than 300 medical doctors and currently, 21 students are receiving medical training from Severance Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital and Wonju Severance Christian Hospital.
