The Severance Hospital Orthopedic Surgery Department began its first treatment in 1926 and established the first independent orthopedic surgery department in Korea in 1953. It is the oldest and highest treatment department of Severance, continuing the tradition of 70 years since its establishment.

The Severance Hospital Orthopedic Surgery Department has played a leading role in the development of orthopedics in Korea, and is currently ranked in the top 10 in the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2021-2024 World Orthopedic Surgery Rankings for four consecutive years by Newsweek, which is the No. 1 in Asia and No. 1 in Korea. Among them, the Shoulder Joint Division is a division where a total of three professors are conducting treatment, surgery, and clinical research. Each faculty member is a leading opinion leader who is actively involved in various shoulder joint fields such as Rotator cuff tear, Shoulder instability, Shoulder arthroplasty, Frozen shoulder, and Trauma. At our hospital, you can experience various shoulder joint orthopedic surgeries with the faculty members.

Last year, there were a total of 528 surgical cases, 216 in Gangnam and 312 in Sinchon, for various diseases such as Rotator cuff tear, Shoulder instability, SLAP lesion, and Shoulder arthropathy. Accordingly, many domestic orthopedic specialists who dream of becoming experts in the shoulder joint field apply for the fellowship program in our department every year to gain clinical experience and learn about clinical research.

It is a great honor to be able to meet and communicate with orthopedic specialists from various countries who are interested in the shoulder joint field through the international fellowship program, and we look forward to the active participation of those who wish to have diverse clinical experience, research, and active communication in this field in our department.
