The Department of Urology was established in Korea as the Department of Urology-Dermatology on May 14, 1917. Historically, the Department of Dermatology and Urology functioned as one unit, but in 1961, the two were separated into two specialties in keeping with the changes in modern medicine. It was the hard work and untiring efforts of Professor Jong Soon Wang, who was the first to assume the chair in the Department of Urology, that made this division possible. The Urological Science Institute was founded in 1995 for the study of men's health and disease. Its slogan “Deep-rooted history, Passion for leading the world” perfectly expresses its goal of being recognized as a global institute based on its long history. Since 2002, this institution has broadened its horizons and has been conducting comprehensive research in various fields of urology. The Urological Science Institute was chosen as the “Best Institute" after an evaluation of research centers at Yonsei University in 2005. Currently, the Urological Science Institute is actively involved in conducting comprehensive research in all areas of urology such as Urologic oncology, Endourology/Stone disease, Neurourology and Pediatric urology. Recently, we have achieved 10,000 cases of urologic robotic surgeries in 2020. In Depratment of Urology, 10,000 robotic surgeries are the highest in South Korea and the highest in Asia.
