The Gastroenterology Department of Gangnam Severance Hospital is involved in developing and implementing diagnosis and treatment methods for digestive system disorders using state-of-the-art devices (e.g., electronic endoscope).

Multidisciplinary medical care is provided for the accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of digestive system disorders including diseases of the esophagus, gastrointestinal tract, large intestine, liver and pancreatobiliary tract, in cooperation with relevant departments.

The Gastroenterology Department of Gangnam Severance Hospital is a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract motor disorders, both in Korea and abroad.

Endoscopic balloon dilatation and oral endoscopic esophagomyotomy are conducted for the treatment of digestive tract motor disorders.

With expertise in the transitional research of digestive tract motor disorders, the department is leading research on the identification of relevant mechanisms and the development of new drugs.

In addition, the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit seeks to provide patient-centered diagnosis and treatment.

Operating under the Gastroenterology Department, the unit consists of a patient safety team, patient comforting team and communication team.

The department annually hosts the Gangnam Severance Single Topic Endoscopic Conference (GSTEC), with the participation of gastrointestinal endoscopy specialists from Korea and abroad.
