The Division of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery at Severance hospital, Yonsei University was first established in 2005, leading the thyroid cancer treatment in Korea.

In terms of surgery, team members perform thyroidectomy with various kinds of high-skilled techniques, such as conventional open surgery, open surgery with minimal incision, endoscopic and robotic surgery. Since the Yonsei thyroid cancer center specializes in thyroid cancer, the group has been the mecca of thyroid cancer treatment in Korea, executes about 2,500 ~3000 operations per year, including the difficult operations related to advanced stage cancers and the relapses of thyroid cancer. Especially, Director prof. Chung performed the first case of robotic thyroidectomy in the world and the team have performed the largest cases of robotic thyroid surgery in the world, looking forward to the upcoming 7,000 robotic thyroidectomy cases.

Group members also manage the parathyroid and adrenal gland disease as a team work starting from diagnosis, localization and surgical managements open as well as endoscopic or robotic approaches.
