Rwandan President Paul Kagame Visits Yonsei University and Yonsei University Health System

Seoul, South Korea – June 5, 2024 – Yonsei University was honored to welcome His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, for a significant visit that emphasized the growing educational and medical collaboration between Rwanda and South Korea.



President Kagame was warmly received at Yonsei University by President & CEO  Ki Chang Keum of the Yonsei University Health System and Director Yong-beom Park of the Yonsei Institute for Global Health (YIGH). The visit marked a pivotal moment in the partnership between the two nations, focusing on enhancing educational and healthcare initiatives.


The primary purpose of President Kagame's visit was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Rwanda's Ministry of Education and Yonsei University. This agreement aims to foster collaborative efforts in academic research, student and faculty exchange programs, and joint healthcare projects. The MOU represents a shared commitment to advancing educational and medical excellence for the benefit of both countries.


After the MOU signing ceremony, President Kagame toured the Yonsei University Health System's state-of-the-art Heavy Ion Therapy Center. This cutting-edge facility is at the forefront of cancer treatment, offering advanced therapies that represent a significant leap forward in medical technology and patient care. The visit to the Heavy Ion Therapy Center highlighted the potential for future collaborations in medical research and healthcare between Rwanda and Yonsei University.
