The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was originated by Yongsul Lee who had studied in USA (Hospital for Ruptured & Crippled, New York) and returned to Korea in 1926 as he started to teach Orthopaedic Surgery and practiced relevant medical examination and treatment services. Later in 1953, an independent department of orthopedic surgery was opened first in Korea as Byungki Moon assumed the first chairperson of orthopedic surgery and our department has taken a leading role in the development of Korean orthopedic surgery from then on. Orthopaedic Surgery is an advanced field of medicine that is continuously developing day by day while studying, conserving, recovering and developing the limbs, spine and subordinate organs for their shapes and functions in their internal, external and physical aspects.
