Sub-speciality Fellowship Overview

Common: Observation of treatment and surgery, attendance of in-hospital conference




Additional applicants: Attendance of the Korean Spine Surgery Society Spring/Fall Academic Conference and attendance of sub-branch/sub-study society


1. Cervical spine surgery

- Specific disease: HCD, OPLL, C-Myeloradiculopathy


2. Thoracolumbar spine surgery

- Specific disease: HTD, OPLL, T-myelopathy // HLD, Spinal stenosis, Spondylolisthesis


3. Deformity

- Specific disease: Scoliosis (Idiopathic, Neuromuscular, Congenital), Lumbar Degenerative Kyphosis


4. MISS & Endoscope

- Specific disease: HCD/HLD,


5. Tumor

- Specific disease: Spinal metastatic tumor/ Extradural/Intradural tumor

Clinical Procedures

Trainees will be able to participate in :


1. Cervical

Cervical anterior surgery – ACDF, ACCF (foraminotomy and total en bloc resection of uncinate process)
Cervical posterior surgery – Laminectomy, Laminoplasty, Foraminotomy

Cervical fusion surgery - (OC/ C1-2/ subaxial cervical fusion, lateral mass screw, freehand pedicle screw)


2. Lumbar

Lumbar anterior surgery – ALIF, OLIF, DLIF 

Lumbar posterior surgery – PLIF, PLF, Laminectomy, Foraminotomy, Posterior instrumentation


3. Deformity

Deformity correction & posterior fusion

4. MISS, Endoscope

Microcopic Disecetomy & Decompression

Biportal Endoscopic Spine surgery – Discectomy, Decompression (Cervical/ Lumbar)


5. Tumor

Excision of extra/intradural tumor/ Posterior decompression and tumor excision w/ posterior instrumentation


Academic Activities

Trainees will be able to participate in :

  1. X-ray conference (Every day 7:00 ~ 8:00 AM )
  2. Korean Society of Spine Surgery (KSSS) Conference (Every May / November)
  3. Korean Research Society of Cerivcal spine (KSCS) Symposium (Every May or June)
  4. Korean Research Society of Lumbar spine (KSLS) Symposium (Every July) 
  5. Korean Research Society of Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery (K-MISS) Symposium (Every April / November)
  6. Korean Research Society of Spinal deformity (KSSD) Symposium (Every April / October)
