The Department of Medical Oncology at Yonsei Cancer Centerl has been in charge of chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy since the opening of the Yonsei Cancer Center in 1969. We started clinical research on new drugs in 1980, and currently 23 faculties and 4 fellows are receiving training. About 300 clinical studies are currently underway with 90 CRCs. Through translational research and clinical treatment of new drugs, we strive to provide optimal treatment for cancer patients.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Yonsei Cancer Center has been leading and contributing to the development of radiation oncology for 100 years since the first radiation treatment in Korea in 1922. Currently, there are 16 faculties and 8 fellows, and research in various fields such as clinical, medical physics, and basics is in progress. In addition, various latest radiation treatments such as cyberknife and MR simulator are being introduced, and in 2023, we plan to start treatment using the Heavy Ion Therapy System for the first time in Korea.
The fellowship consists of 1 month of General Medical Oncology, 1 month of breast cancer specific course, and 1 month of Radiation Oncology program. Through the training program, applicants can receive training in standard treatment for each cancer type (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy), new drug clinical trials, translational research, and overall pain and symptom management through inpatient rounds and outpatient observation. They can also receive training with a special focus on breast cancer treatment.
The Department of Radiation Oncology shares the latest knowledge on radiation oncology through in-house conferences (Case conference, Journal club, QA conference), and radiation therapy design and treatment process (CT simulation, target contouring, planning, image-guided radiotherapy using CBCT) ) and receive training on all aspects of radiation therapy. They can receive training on patient management before, during, and after radiation therapy through outpatient observation. In particular, they can receive focused training on radiation therapy for breast cancer patients.
All participants of our SIF program will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training. The certificate will be issued by the President & CEO of Yonsei University Health System.
