Severance International Fellowship (SIF) is open to foreign physicians, dentists, nurses, medical technicians, or hospital administrators who wish to experience clinical care, operative procedures, and participate in research activities at Severance Hospital(Sinchon) Seoul, Korea. This program builds on the hospital’s long legacy and mission to educate future clinical leaders in healthcare and ultimately reducing health inequalities in the global society.

1. All foreign trainees have to be eligible to enter Korea without violating Article 11(Prohibition, etc. of Entry) of the Immigration Act of the Republic of Korea.
   
   
2. All foreign trainees have to be enough fluent in English or Korean to participate in the training. Trainees have to be not only able to do daily conversation, but also have to understand and be able to listen, read, write, and speak about their professional specialty area in English or Korean. Severance Academy might request official proof of the trainee's language proficiency if necessary. Interpretations are NOT available.
   
   
3. All foreign trainees have to be registered as trainees in Severance Academy, mainly by applying online at this homepage. (Email applications are not recommended.)
   
   
4. All foreign trainees have to submit a immunization form that asks for proof of vaccination or antibody test results for specific diseases designated by Severance Hospital. Please download the form here.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a long-standing history and tradition is proud of our role that has played a central role in diagnosing and treating women’s diseases in Korea and tries our best to provide best medical services to every female patient. Our department was initiated by Dr. Jessi W. Hirst in 1904, who was one of the leaders established Severance hospital. We started four subdivisions for the first time in Korea: Maternal fetal medicine, Reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Gynecologic oncology, and Urogynecology. There are 12 faculties and 5 attending physicians currently in Severance hospital, 5 faculties and 7 attending physicians in two branch hospitals (Gangnam Severance hospital & Yongin Severance hospital). We started to perform gynecologic minimally invasive surgery for the first time in Korea, as a pioneer of laparoscopic surgery. Our department conducts education for fellows, residents and medical students as well as research activities to provide high-quality healthcare services for women throughout their lifespan. 

The Gynecological Cancer Center of Yonsei Cancer Hospital was founded in 1962 as the first early diagnosis center for cervical cancer in Korea. The Uterine Cancer Early Diagnosis Center developed into a gynecological cancer clinic with the establishment of the new Severance Hospital in 2005. In 2014, Yonsei Cancer Hospital opened and expanded and reorganized into a gynecological cancer center. We are operating The Best Surgery Team, which is composed of professors from various departments, to provide the best surgery to patients with difficult surgery. We provide gynecological cancer patients with surgery that can minimize damage to blood vessels and nerves through delicate robotic surgery. We also provide a scarless single-port laparoscopy surgery that minimizes surgical wounds to patients. We are operating a multidisciplinary treatment room for gynecological cancer with a new concept. Multidisciplinary care is the best treatment system in which gynecologists from various fields gather in one place to decide the treatment direction through in-depth discussion about each gynecological cancer patient. Through multidisciplinary treatment, gynecological cancer patients can receive integrated treatment in one place and receive prompt treatment.

Clinical procedures include gynecological cancer surgery (Ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervix cancer), Chemotherapy/ targeted agent, immunotherapy, clinical trial, myoma, endometriosis, adenomyosis, ovarian cyst), minimally invasive surgery-laparoscopy, hysteroscopy), and robotic surgery.

Studies on surgical treatment of gynecological cancer, clinical research, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and translational research are being done.
