Department of Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is a clinical field that provides the diagnosis and treatments for potential tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, dysfunction, congenital diseases, degenerative diseases, and physical damage in the brain and spinal cord.
 Founded as a part of the Division of General Surgery in 1957, the Division of Neurosurgery at Severance was also dedicated to student education and research, and finally became an independent division in 1961 where neurosurgery training was started.
 The Department of Neurosurgery is actively engaged in academic research in clinical and basic fields such as gamma knife surgery, skull base tumor, cerebrovascular disease, pituitary tumor, spinal disease, and pediatric neurologic disorders.
 As a result, more than 4,000 surgeries are performed annually, and various papers have gained domestic and international recognition.
